Custom 3" Air Intake w/ K&N Filter
Preparation/Install Time: 30 min

This ia a very simple mod that can yield up to 5hp if your lucky. You can't get any significant gains out of the 5SFE without major head and other engine work.

There are various methods of creating intake modifications, the cheapest is simply bolting on an air filter to the stock piping. Its a bit cumbersome but it works. If you get a 3" filter you won't get a snug deal around the hose, since the hose is 2 inches. A quick way around this is to wrap the hose with enough electrical tape, this will restrict flow however. You should also know that the filter can pop out of there if not snug enough, I can speak from personal experience.

Your best bet is to get a 92-95 Civic Intake pipe from ebay. A few inches will need to be cut so that it can fit in the engine bay without modifying the battery location. They usually come with everything you need even an inexpensive 3" K&N style filter. You can usually find this for less than $25 including shipping. Just gotta shop around for the best deal.

Purchasing a real K&N, Apexi or Blitz will yield better filtration and better results overall. If anything you'll gain a little more air into your engine either way so you should really be looking into filtration. There are many debates as to which filter flows more so for the sake of argument we'll just stick to what I have in my celica a K&N RC-4180 filter. Just remember the more surface area the more air that your engine can breathe.

You will need to drill a hole into the pipe to fit the air temp sensor. 92-92 pipes come with two and some even three small vacumm fittings. Make sure to cover these up by rubber plugs or by cutting some of the hose it came with and plugging them with screws. Rubber plug method works best, this way you don't risk anything getting sucked in.

Although this is one of the easiest mods there is some work involved. Make sure you plan out and have everyting that you need. Your engine will thank you by creating a little more horsepower.
