We’ve seen it before, being distasteful on social networks can get you fired from your job. The latest example was Gilbert Gottfried who was fired as the voice of the Aflac duck after tweeting jokes about the tragedy in Japan.
Joking about a tragedy is bad enough, but to do so about a current one whose scars have not even begun to heal is just plain wrong. I won’t be posting the jokes on here, you can use your favorite search engine to look them up. Sure comedians are always trying to find that edge and try to break “new ground” but that was like joking about a very close loved one passing away just yesterday. Gottfried did apologize on twitter:
Gilbert Gottfried apologizes on Twitter
“I meant no disrespect, and my thoughts are with the victims and their families.”
“I sincerely apologize to anyone who was offended by my attempt at humor regarding the tragedy in Japan”
The ex-Aflac duck voice wasn’t the only one who exercised distastefulness, a rapper and a press secretary were also Twerks (Twitter jerks). Aflac has announced that it will place a nationwide casting call for a new Aflac duck voice.
If you think about it, Gottfried was getting paid good money to simply do a voice anyone else could do. Then again who can be as annoying as him?
Trivial stuff aside, let’s bring attention to the real issue at hand here. If you would like to help in relief efforts for Japan.
