This is it ladies and gentlemen, Paul the Octopus has made his final selections for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. After correctly predicting six matches, the final and third place matches are now selected.

Paul the Octopus selects Spain for the final and Germany for the third place match

Paul selects Spain for the Final and Germany for the third place match

Spain will be your winner for the final against Holland and Germany will take the third place spot in the match against Uruguay.

The keepers of the Sea Life Aquarium in Oberhausen have pledged to protect Paul from any of Germany’s disgruntled fans. Even the Prime Minister of Spain has humorously offered Paul protection. But Paul looks to redeem himself as he picks Germany for the winner of the third place match. Did the pressure get to Paul? Or is he keeping his cool and going with his instincts?

if you ask me, I think Paul went ahead with his gut, if he has one. As amazing as these creatures are, according to the keepers they only live for at most three years. So being that these cephalopods are extremely smart. He knows his time is up and doesn’t care what happens to him. Unfortunately for us he wont be around for the next cup, but we’ll always remember!

Now we just have to wait and see if Paul can go 8-0 this Sunday July 11.
